WELCOME TO SATORI SCHOLARS
Satori Scholars is a literary community connecting incarcerated men with books and encouraging responses to spark transformation.

HOW OUR PROGRAM WORKS:
Every month, justice-involved participants receive a book that pairs relatable life experiences with stories of hope, faith, and resilience. Through reading and reflection prompts, participants grow in character and wisdom.
Participants then submit written reflections, and members of the Satori Scholars community reply with uplifting words and encouragement. Ensuring that every voice is heard and reminded that their story matters.
We believe reading, reflection, and connection can spark more people to have satori. A satori are moments of sudden enlightenment that opens the door to lasting transformation.
Join our mission by becoming a community responder or donating to send more books into prisons to help change lives one satori at a time.
INSIDE OUR PROGRAM:

Current Reading: The Sun Does Shine
By: Anthony Ray Hinton
In 1985, Anthony Ray Hinton was wrongly convicted of two murders in Alabama and sentenced to death. With no money and little chance for justice, he spent nearly thirty years on Death Row.
Rather than give in to bitterness and sadness, Hinton chose to embrace joy, humor, and faith. Believing in the power of books to unlock imagination, he started the first book club on Death Row. Mr. Hinton allowed his transformation to serve as a source of hope for his fellow inmates facing execution. With the support of civil rights attorney Bryan Stevenson, he was finally exonerated and freed in 2015.
Mr. Hinton’s unforgettable memoir is a true testament that hope is a choice even in the darkest places, and a reminder that while freedom can be taken, the power to choose one’s response remains.
